What goes wrong with Moffat dryers
No heat
Thermal fuse, heating element and thermostats are the usual suspects on Moffat electric dryers.
Won't tumble
A worn or broken belt, idler pulley or drum bearing.
Clothes still damp
Usually a blocked vent or lint build-up inside the cabinet.
Two generations of Moffat dryers
Moffat started as a stove maker in Weston, Ontario, and the name later became part of Camco, the Canadian appliance company tied to GE Canada. Older Moffat dryers you still find in basements are usually Camco-era machines with mechanical timers. Newer Moffat dryers sold in Canada are built on GE Appliances platforms and share GE parts. Both kinds are vented dryers, mostly electric, with the drum driven by a belt and idler pulley. Knowing which generation you have tells us which parts list to work from.
Common Moffat faults
No heat is the most frequent call on Moffat electric dryers, and the usual causes are a burnt heating element, an open thermal fuse or a worn cycling thermostat. A drum that will not turn points to a broken belt, a seized idler pulley or a worn rear drum bearing. Long dry times are often not a broken part at all: lint packed inside the cabinet, a crushed foil duct behind the dryer or a stuck exterior flap can double drying time. We check airflow before replacing any heat parts.
Before you book
Look for the model and serial label, usually inside the door opening or on the back of the cabinet, and send us a photo if you can. For older Camco-era Moffat dryers, some cosmetic or control parts are no longer made, but common wear parts such as belts, idlers, elements and thermostats are often still available or have compatible replacements. We confirm what is available before starting, so you know whether a repair is practical before any work begins.

FAQ
Moffat dryer repair — FAQ
Do you repair Moffat gas and electric dryers?
Yes. We repair Moffat electric & gas dryers across Calgary and nearby towns.
Where is the model number on my Moffat dryer?
Usually on a sticker inside the door opening or on the back panel. Have it ready when you call — it helps us bring the right parts.
Is my Moffat dryer worth repairing?
In most cases, yes. Common failures like fuses, heating elements, belts, rollers and sensors cost far less than a new dryer. If yours is not worth fixing, the technician will tell you honestly.
Who makes Moffat dryers today?
Moffat-branded dryers sold in Canada in recent years are built on GE Appliances designs and use GE parts. Older Moffat dryers were made during the Camco years, when Moffat, McClary, Beaumark and Canadian GE products shared factories and many parts. The model number tells us which generation yours is and which parts apply.
Is an old Moffat dryer worth fixing?
Often, yes, if the cabinet and drum are in good shape and the fault is a common wear part like a belt, element or thermostat. These dryers are mechanically simple. If a discontinued control or timer has failed with no replacement available, we will tell you plainly that replacing the dryer makes more sense.
