Common Westinghouse faults
What goes wrong with Westinghouse dryers
Parts for older models
Many parts are shared with Camco/GE or Electrolux machines of the same era, so repairs are often still possible.
No heat
Element, thermal fuse and thermostats are the usual causes.
Noisy drum
Worn rollers, glides and belts.
Two Westinghouse names
Two names cause confusion here. Canadian Westinghouse built appliances in Hamilton, Ontario, until its appliance business went to Camco in the late 1970s, so many Canadian Westinghouse dryers share parts with Camco-era GE, Moffat and McClary models. White-Westinghouse was a different line in the U.S. that later passed to Electrolux, the parent of Frigidaire. Both kinds are older vented dryers with dial timers and simple mechanical controls, built before electronic boards and sensor drying became common in home laundry.
What fails on older dryers
Most Westinghouse dryers still running have outlasted many newer machines, and the faults are the classic ones. No heat on electric models points to an element, thermal fuse or thermostat; on gas models a technician checks the ignition system. Thumps, squeals and scraping come from worn drum rollers, glides, bearings and belts. Older timers and switches can also fail. These dryers have no codes, so careful testing with a meter is how the fault is found.
Parts and safety on an older dryer
Parts availability depends on which family your dryer belongs to. Wear parts such as belts, elements and thermostats may still be available or have compatible replacements, while timers and trim pieces are often discontinued. We check before starting. Older dryers also tend to have older ducting behind them; replace plastic or vinyl duct with rigid or semi-rigid metal. Have the model and serial number ready and send a photo of the label.

FAQ
Westinghouse dryer repair — FAQ
Do you repair Westinghouse gas and electric dryers?
Yes. We repair Westinghouse gas & electric dryers across Calgary and nearby towns.
Where is the model number on my Westinghouse dryer?
Usually on a sticker inside the door opening or on the back panel. Have it ready when you call — it helps us bring the right parts.
Is my Westinghouse dryer worth repairing?
In most cases, yes. Common failures like fuses, heating elements, belts, rollers and sensors cost far less than a new dryer. If yours is not worth fixing, the technician will tell you honestly.
Is my Westinghouse dryer made by Electrolux or Camco?
It depends on when and where it was sold. Dryers labelled Canadian Westinghouse are generally Camco-family machines, while White-Westinghouse dryers come from the line that passed to Electrolux. The model number and the label on the dryer usually tell us, so send a photo and we will identify it.
Is it worth repairing a Westinghouse dryer this old?
If the part needed is a common wear item and the drum, motor and cabinet are sound, a repair can keep it going for years. If the timer or another discontinued part has failed with no available replacement, we will tell you honestly that a new dryer is the more practical choice.
